De Rustica Estates is delighted to announce that, for the third year in succession, it has been awarded 3 gold medals and two silver medals at the independently judged SA Olive annual competition for its Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
De Rustica is the only Estate in South Africa to have been awarded 3 gold medals.

The Gold medals were for:

Estate Range: Medium

Estate Collection, Single cultivar  – Coratina

Estate Collection, Single cultivar –  Favolosa
These consistent top-of-class results are once again a testament to the microclimate at De Rustica which is uniquely suitable for producing world class extra virgin olive oil and to the olive-orchard and olive-press standards set by the De Rustica Estate.

De Rustica is constantly improving its methods, equipment, and standards in an effort to continue producing world-class extra virgin olive oil and is gratified that these efforts have again been recognized.

“Led by international olive oil expert and sensory scientist, Sue Langstaff from California, the panel awarded a total of 19 gold (22%), 34 silver and 26 bronze medals. “Out of the 87 extra virgin olive oils (EVOO) entered in categories for delicate, medium and intense, some 90% were deserving of a medal,” says Langstaff. “This compares well against similar competitions held in other countries – it means the producers have exercised a healthy measure of self-policing by entering mostly olive oils of high quality worthy of a medal.” – Taken from SA Olive Association, Blog: South Africa’s Finest EVOO’s Announced – 2017
