Apart from the highly successful olive oil industry, De Rustica Olive Estate also boasts of a large selection of domestic animals and they are especially proud of the excellent condition of the sheep.
De Rustica has always walked the extra mile to uplift the locals in the community and it was therefore decided to create employment in the Oudemuragie area. The National Wool Growers Association was approached to train young men who are unemployed to become successful sheep shearers.
Twenty-five applicants were put on a 4-week training course and on completion of the course, the best 5 trainees were selected. They are currently employed by De Rustica on a contract basis to shear sheep. These contract workers now also assist with sheep shearing on neighboring farms.
Previously De Rustica employed sheep shearers from Lesotho and they are proud to have uplifted the local community in this manner.
